Scholarships
Leah Juelke is a Fargo South High alumna, Former Fargo South teacher, and the 2018 North Dakota Teacher of the Year. She has a passion for education and helping diverse students share their voices and advocate for themselves. In 2014, she created the Journey to America project that helped refugee and immigrant students share their stories with the world, promoting empathy and understanding. In 2020, Juelke was named one of the top 10 teachers in the world by the Varkey Foundation. Ranjitsinh Disale, a teacher in India and the grand prize winner of the 2020 Global Teacher Prize Award, shared his prize winnings with the finalists. Disale also created a non-profit for girls’ education and under-represented students, which he and Juelke head together. Both teachers are passionate about mentoring and investing in future educators from diverse backgrounds.
With her prize money from the Ranjit Disale Foundation, Leah created two annual scholarships.
1. The Journey to America Scholarship for Fargo South High EL students who plan to attend college.
2. Juelke- Disale Educator Scholarship for any area Fargo EL students who plan to major in the field of education in college.
Scholarships are distributed in partnership with the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation and open on DECEMBER 1st each year. The deadline for the scholarships is MARCH 31st of each year. See Below to Apply!
